DIY || Calendar Gumnuts.

Hello hello!
Today I thought I would show you a little craft that I did a few days ago. Out the front of my house we have a gumtree which is currently in flower, this means that all of the old gum-nuts that have already bloomed are falling onto the ground and just waiting to decompose...But not if I have anything to do with it!

I collected as many gum-nuts that were still in a pretty good condition as I could find, and painted them all white (of course you could paint them any colour your heart desired!) Then, once they were dried I started writing on them in a permanent marker.

I used 10 little gum-nuts to write the numbers 0-9 on for the date, and 4 to write the days of the week, you can write Monday & Tuesday etc. on either side of the gum-nut to use less of them if you don't have enough to spare! Because I'm quite an astronomy enthusiast too, I used some to show the moon phases (once again sometimes drawing two phases on one gum-nut.) I really really like how they turned out, and right now they have prime position on my windowsill, where I can change them every morning. I also decorated an old jar to store them in when they're not being used!

Of course, not everyone can just find gum-nuts laying around, but if you do you should definitely give this a go!
I think once there's a fresh stash fallen down I'll make a gum-nut garland to string across my room.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Sewing Alteration || Baggy Jumper

Oh hello!
I feel like it has been an eternity since I've gotten my fingers into some sewing, and they were itching to create something again. I suppose it isn't "create" so much as "alter" but you get my point.
I bought this jumper back in winter 2013, and despite liking it at the start it was just always pushed to the back of my cupboard by items I liked better.

That has all changed now though! I removed the sequinned collar, and embroidered one of my favourite quotes on the front of it, as well as pink accents around the neck and sleeves. I now can't wait for winter to show its chilly face so I can wear it everywhere.

"Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night." ~Sarah Williams 'The Old Astronomer'

Have any of you been doing some sewing recently? I find it very soothing.

Craft || Crochet Doll.

Hello again lovelies!
Another midweek post... A few days ago I was having a crochet-crazy day. I just felt like making something, and found this lovely pattern for an amigurumi doll! It was definitely the trickiest thing that I've crocheted, but I absolutely loved how it turned out! I ended up naming her Stella :)

What do you think? Do any of you crochet?

Autumn's Soundtrack.

Autumn.
The season of change, as once green leaves shift their hue and break their last ties with the trees on which they were born. In Autumn, time itself feels as though it has ceased to move, like never again will you feel the frosty bite of a winter morning, or the all enclosing heat of a summer afternoon. Autumn is a world in itself, it is ever-shortening days that creep closer on both sides like the hug of a well-loved sweater. It's a cool breeze on your face and the warm sun on your back. Autumn is life taken slowly, long walks and long reads. Where even the sun mourns the passing of time, in a brilliant flash of orange as it dips below the horizon, the only tell-tale sign of an ever-encroaching winter.

This playlist is my attempt at bottling the feelings of Autumn into a snippet of time. It's songs that place an orange veil over my world, and warm me internally in a way the crackling embers of a fireplace never could. Press play and close your eyes, may you be transported to a place where it's Autumn eternally.

She had sweet velvet eyes, but a prison cell heart.

I'm starting a new section on my blog, where I'll post pages from my journal, usually without text to accompany it. Let me know what you think of this kind of post!

Also, just an update:
Last month I was featured on Nina's lovely blog. She was so sweet and I'd love for you guys to check it out! (and consider following her while you're there!)

Haircut.

Just thought I'd do a quick mid-week update for you all...
I got my hair cut! I'd been um-ing and ah-ing over whether or not I should get it done for the longest time, but I finally did it!

A few days before hand I'd almost cancelled the appointment out of sheer nerves. I'd never cut my hair this short before and I didn't really know if short hair would look good on me or not.

I'm really glad I decided to suck it up and go do it, because I love it so much! It still has a balayage like last time, just much shorter!

If you're considering cutting your hair or doing something radically different with your life, I say go and do it! It's amazing how emotionally attached we can get to things (like our hair) and sometimes you just need a good reminder that you are more than your appearance or a material object.

Hope you guys like the haircut too!
