A List || 20 Things I Learnt Before I Was 20

If you are reading this post on the day it goes live then it's most likely that as you're reading I'm on a plane to the USA. In 2 days I'm going to be turning twenty in a country I've never been to before, surrounded by nobody I know and I'm equal parts excited and terrified.

20 years is a long time for us humans, but at the same time it's only the beginning and that's something I need to keep reminding myself to soothe my panics over no longer being a teenager. I was scared to turn 18, I was scared to turn 19 too, but those years were fine. Your age doesn't really determine anything about you other than how many trips you've taken around the sun in this physical form, and I plan on completing many many more rotations before my time is up.

So here you go, as I enter the beginning of my third decade (what an achievement!) here are 20 things that my constant stumbles have taught me about myself and my life:

Who'd have thought that scrunchie-wearing 3 year old would've grown so much? (and still be wearing scrunchies?)

This post was inspired by Fern's from when she turned 20 back in February.

Outfit || June

Winter now has its frosty hand raised to knock on our doors here in the Southern Hemisphere, and I'm already waiting patiently snuggled beneath layers of blankets ready to let it in. You see Winter and I, we understand each other. Winter doesn't ask for the constant energy of Spring or the busyness of Summer; it wishes only for someone who won't mumble and grumble over the cold. Can you imagine someone complaining about something you can't change about yourself whenever you're with them? No wonder Winter is so quiet and still: it doesn't want to draw even more attention to itself.

Winter has mastered something no other season has: the art of the internal adventure. Spring, Summer and Autumn, they all beg us to be outside, to talk to the animals or bask in the sunlight or crunch the leaves beneath our feet. Days spent surrounded by such a buzz of life that it's hard to hear our own buzz underneath it all...
But Winter, oh Winter, sometimes on the coldest days our own buzz is the only one we can hear, and so there we can stay all day, learning to decipher all the thoughts and feelings we'd neglected for outer adventures during the warmer months.

When Winter knocks on your door please don't answer it grudgingly, open it up with a smile and welcome it in. Smile at the fact that you can travel anywhere you want to without even having to unwrap your hand from your warm tea mug. After all, it is when the world outside is most frozen that our imaginations are most thawed.

Video || May 2015

May slipped by me in a blur this year, it's always a month that gets caught up trying to decide whether it wants to be Autumn or Winter and usually ends as a strange combination of the two. May is also going to be the last "normal" month for a while and it's likely also going to be my last monthly video for a while. Never fear though because I'm sure I'll have plenty of footage to share with you once my US trip is over.
