OOTD || Jump Into Jumpsuits

Hello hello hello hello hello!

Are you all excited about how close we are to Christmas? I hope so!

So as you probably don't know, I'm going on a cruise with my best friend in January which I am super duper excited about, and yesterday we went shopping for some outfits to wear on the cruise. Here is two outfits that I got, which just so happen to both be jumpsuits! They're so easy to just pull on when you can't be bothered to work out an outfit that goes together.

I had heaps of fun taking these photos, so enjoy!

 

 

The first jumpsuit is this blue thin denim material. It's really simple and I love the white stitching around the neckline. It's drawn in at the waist by some elastic and I think I'll be wearing it with a thin black belt around the waist too! I also paired it with my white jelly's and a floral denim vest which I also purchased yesterday.

 The second jumpsuit is this simple white one. It has a tie that you can tie into a bow at the front, as well as super cute eyelet detailing. I think it also looks super cute with the floral vest! (and makes my legs look long, which I like!)

 The blue jumpsuit is more baggy and comfortable, whereas the white jumpsuit fits more closely to your body. I am also in love with the floral vest! I can see me wearing it with a lot of different outfits in the future.

How To || Make Your Own Scrunchies.

Hello everyone!

I'm back with another "How-To" post today, yay! This one is super duper simple so absolutely anyone can make it. I love making scrunchies so much because you get to choose the colour, pattern and everything, but recently I've seen scrunchies being sold for exorbitant amounts of money, so I have come to your rescue to teach you to make your own. FOR FREE. They would also be awesome to make for christmas presents for your friends. Did someone just say MATCHING SCRUNCHIES!? Anyway, I digress. Let's get on with the actual how-to!

Materials:

-   Material in any colour or pattern (I decided on christmas stars)

- Scissors

- Elastic (Mine was about .8cm wide)

- Ruler (optional)

- Safety Pin (optional)

- Sewing Machine (or a needle and thread if you can't access one)

 

Steps: (Refer to the photo below)

- (Not pictured) Cut your material into a long strip. Mine was about 8cm x 75cm. It's always good to cut the fabric a bit longer than you think you want; you can always cut some off later!

1. Fold your material in half lengthways so that the patterned sides of your fabric are facing each other. Sew in a straight line all the way to the end of your fabric.

2. Once you've sewn a straight line you need to turn your fabric the right way out. This step takes a little bit of time.

3. Your fabric should now look like a long snake

4. Now you need to start threading your elastic through your material. I always find it easier to attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic so it's easier to pull through.

5. Once your elastic is all the way through, start to gather it in

6. Keep gathering the fabric in until it's the size you want. Tie a knot in the elastic at the right size. There's really no set size for scrunchies, if you want it to loop around your hair less times, make it smaller, and the opposite if you want more.

7. Once you've got your scrunchie all tied up the last thing to do is sew up the two ends. I fold one end slightly in on itself to clean up the edge, and then put the other end inside of it.

8. Do a straight stitch to sew the two ends together. I'd recommend using a similar colour to the colour of the fabric. (I was lazy and didn't take my own advice)

9. You're done! Cut off any loose threads and go get that beauty in your hair!

But why just stop with simple fabric? If your scrunchie is for a friend you could decorate it with glitter glue, mini pompoms, bells, buttons, anything! Make it personal and fun!

Yay! I hope you enjoy making scrunchies as much as I do! Just a warning though, try not to get as obsessed as I am (I currently have 31 scrunchies on a constant rotation, one for each day of the month!)

OOTD || White Dress

Hello everyone!

It has actually been forever and three days since I posted a simple outfit post (I counted), and I couldn't pass up showing you my new favourite dress, so enjoy!

I found this dress in Tree Of Life whilst they were having a sale, and as soon as I saw it I fell in love! It was the last one left in my size too so it was clearly meant to be!

I've been looking for a simple white dress for the longest time now and this one fit what I wanted perfectly, I really love the hippie/bohemian vibe it has.

UGH I AM SO IN LOVE WITH IT.

What's In My (Camping) Bag?

Hello you beautiful people!

Before you start reading anything.... Do you like my new blog design!? I feel as though christmas is finally coming!

Today I have a post that's a little bit different to what I usually do. Since I recently went camping on the weekend just past, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to show you what I view as essentials to bring in the car on the way there, and also while you're camping. Keep in mind these are my essentials, and it would be different for everyone!

Without further ado, let's get started!

 

Firstly, the number one most important thing to bring is a backpack. Otherwise, what are you going to put everything in!? This also doubles as something you can keep jumpers, food and water in when you go for long walks once you're finally at your destination.

 

Now onto the contents of the bag (from left to right):

1. A book (or two): Don't underestimate just how much spare time you can have while camping. Waiting for meals to cook, waiting for the shower, after waking up, before bed; books provide the perfect entertainment for when you're camping. My favourite kinds of books to read while camping (or anytime) are ones with lots of adventures! It will make you even more excited for your days spent camping. I'm taking two of the Ranger's Apprentice books with me.

2. Some money/change: This isn't for camping so much as while on the road. You never know if you're going to pass and icecream stand on your way there.

3. A camera: this one speaks for itself! Go and make some memories.

4. Pen: again, it speaks for itself. You never realise how much you need a pen until you don't have easy access to them (I keep this one in the front pocket of my bag).

5. Sunglasses: I'm starting to think all of these things speak for themselves...

6. A Dictionary: Okay you're all probably thinking ARE YOU CRAZY!? The simple answer is yes. Recently I've started writing any unknown words I come across in my reading or in everyday life down in a little notebook (the orange one in the bottom row) and then looking up what they mean at the end of the day. It's a really good way to kill some time as well as learning something!

7. Pencilcase: Contains the essentials; pencils, erasers and a LOT of pens.

8. My blog journal: I feel as though I might get some new ideas for blog posts while I'm camping, so better have something to write them on!

9. Playing cards: Never underestimate the power of playing cards to entertain. These are a MUST for everyone.

10. Ipod: This is mainly for the car trip down and back, you know when you get too far away from radio towers that all you get is static on the radio? Yeah, these are lifesavers. I'm going to try and steer clear of too much technology while I'm there, so probably won't be using this while I'm camping.

11. Tissues: self explanatory.

12. Pocket Cloud Book: This one is only new to my collection! If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I love love love clouds and stars. I think they are absolutely amazing! I'm really interested in cloud-spotting and trying to predict the oncoming weather by using clouds, so this book is a must have for me!

13. Small notebook: Refer to #6

14. Notebook: This one is empty. You never know what crazy thoughts you're going to want to write down while you're camping!

I also have a watch and a compass/thermometer attached to the handle of my bag. No matter what you think, you will ALWAYS need a watch when you're camping, and you never know when you might need a compass or thermometer.

So that's it! It's quite a long list isn't it!?

One thing that I would definitely put on the DO NOT BRING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES list would be your phone. It's only a couple of days, and if you're going to spend the entire time on the phone then what was the point of going camping at all? Honestly. Trust me on this one, you aren't going to miss anything vital while you're away.

Monthly Favourites || NOVEMBER

It's that time again already! Time for my monthly favourites. I feel like November was pulled out from under my feet before I even knew it had been there at all, and now we've entered the last month of 2013 and I am most definitely not prepared for it. Nevertheless, here are my favourites from November.

 

It's nigh on impossible to pick one favourite song this month, so instead I'm going to give you a list of albums:

1. One Direction - Midnight Memories (It's perfect)

2. Lorde- Pure Heroine

3. Alt-J- An Awesome Wave (Seriously, give it a listen. I'm addicted to everything Alt-J (∆) recently)

4. Sam Garrett- Be Easy EP (This one is a definite must-listen if you want something relaxing and utterly beautiful.)

This outfit's only new, and I've only worn it twice so far, but I am in LOVE. It is a "hippy/bohemian" dress that I found in Tree Of Life on sale, and I had been looking for one just like it for the longest time. There will be a full post on it coming soon.

 

It seems forever and a day ago that I read Allegiant, but it was only November! If you haven't read the Divergent series I cannot recommend it enough!

I've also recently been loving the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan, I know it's aimed at an age bracket younger than mine but I absolutely adore every book. When I was in grade 8 I read the first book, and now I'm re-reading them all and am up to number 5.

 I have two "favourite" moments from this month, but they are both sort of related. The first is stargazing. Twice this month my family and I have gone across to the oval across from house in the middle of the night and done some stargazing, it's amazing how insignificant, yet important looking into space can make you feel. We spotted satellites, venus and various constellations, and it is all so fascinating. 

The second moment is when my sister and I were driving home from work, and right infront of us we saw a bright green meteor shoot across the sky. Knowing I'll probably never see another in my lifetime makes it even more special.

I'm going to endeavor to look at the stars more often.

Relating back to what I just said, I leave you with this quote:

Sewing || Checkered Dress

Hello lovelies,

I know I promised you that I would have much more time to make posts now that university is over, but so far I haven't been keeping to my promise. I'm sorry!

To be honest, I haven't really even had the desire to go near a computer for an extended period of time recently. Is that normal? Instead I have been spending my time reading books and sewing too many scrunchies. Forgive me! Maybe soon I'll find inspiration for more blog posts,  but until then you'll just have to put up with getting one every now and then!

Anyway, recently I spontaneously made this dress out of some fabric we had lying around. I think it turned out alright if I'm allowed to say so myself...

 

 I started out by tracing the neckline of a shirt I already owned onto a piece of paper, and then used that as a sort of "pattern piece" to make the neck. I don't ever use actual patterns, and most of it is just "guess and hope"

Then I cut out holes for the sleeves and stitched the front and back to the neck. Afterwards I cut shorter bits of material and gathered them up to make a second sort of "skirt" for the bottom of the dress. 

On its own the dress is really baggy, so I also just sewed up a long belt of material from the same white material as the neckline, to tie into a bow that would pull the dress in at the waist. This is the overall result:

 

I think it looks quite nice, and it is SO comfortable and easy to move in! It also reminds me a little bit of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

DIY || Frilly Socks

 Hi! Hello! Hey!

Do you remember me? I feel like it's been so long since I've posted but it's only been just over a week! I had university exams and was completely unmotivated to do anything other than complain about how unmotivated I was. But all of my exams are over and now I have time to think up and post plenty of things for you guys, starting with this ultra-girly post on how to make your own frilly socks. Let's go!

Back when I was a little five year old I had a pair of frilly barbie socks. They were my favourite thing in the world because I loved the lace around them, and when you folded the tops down it would reveal the Barbie "B" embroided in the side of the sock. HOW CUTE! But alas, nothing lasts forever and I think those socks got thrown out once they were worn too thin by my constant dancing around in them. But now I'm ready to unleash my inner five year old and her love for frilly socks once again, and I'm going to show you how to as well!

 

How-To:

1. Buy some plain socks. I'd recommend looking in the little girls section of the store (I bought mine from Big W) because they're more likely to have the socks you want. Don't worry about the sizing because socks stretch. I'm a size 6/7 shoe but bought Size 9-12 kids socks and they fit perfectly. It's important to have a look at what the inside of the sock looks like too, because it's going to be shown when you fold them down.

2. TURN THE SOCK INSIDE OUT this isn't of extreme importance, but once I sewed some the wrong way and now have to wear them inside out all the time. It makes you feel like you have your life together when you can actually wear socks the right way.

3. Put your desired lace and your (inside out) sock under your sewing machine foot. You should have it so your sock is on the left and the lace should be positioned so the part that you want to be the bottom when you're wearing the socks is pointing out to the right (off the end of the top of the sock)

4. Sew! But THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER is to stretch your sock out as you are sewing. You should stretch the elastic at the opening of the sock quite far as you go. This is because if you don't, if you have lace that doesn't stretch you will go to put on your sock and won't be able to fit your foot into it!

5. Finish sewing the other sock, cut loose ends and then turn your socks the right way out again. Put on your socks, play your favourite childhood song and dance around your room. YOU'RE FINISHED!

 

You can pair your socks with a lot of different kinds of shoes to add a girly edge to any outfit.

You can also do this to ankle socks, just don't turn your sock inside out, and sew with your lace already pointing in the right direction.
