The Red Queen.

Hey beautiful people!

Sorry for the lack of posts since my birthday but I have decided to make it up to you today with a post I'm really excited about. If you read this post you'll remember I recently rediscovered my love of self-photoshoots. So I did another one last night before I went out to a friends birthday party. Here are some of the pictures!

Too many photos not enough room!
I did a crown braid and put in fake red and black flowers & curled the bottom half of my hair.

Flatlay of what I wore: black stockings, black boots, red skater dress, black and red flowers in hair and a metal collar necklace.

My favourite photo from the night, not even edited! I felt like it looked really magical.

If you're wondering why the lighting in this is so weird it's because it was night time so I had to improvise without natural light! I turned on my reading light on my bed instead and shone it straight on me. I think it worked really well and gave the photos a really magical effect. My definite favourite is the last one I posted, I don't know quite what it is about the photo but it makes me feel like maybe I was about to go to a ball or something of that sort. I sure wish I was! I felt enough like a princess for it to be true, but instead it was just a friends birthday party. I didn't really enjoy the party that much and the highlight of the night was definitely taking all these photos! I'm really glad I put aside the time to take them.

Why can't balls be a common occurrence in society!? I think they would just make life so much more magical. For now I'm just left to my dreaming. A girl can dream right?

I hope you all had a magical night as well.

Over and out,
Erin.

My 18th Birthday!

So the day has finally arrived! Today is my 18th birthday and I have had an absolutely lovely day. It started off at 6:50am when I woke up and went for a run to a family friends house since I am dog-sitting and then walked their dogs. Afterwards when I got home I had breakfast and opened my presents from my parents, I got a new Lorna Jane sports bra which is so gorgeous and I also got a GoPro! I was so spoilt today! I also just played around with my GoPro and made a short video if any of you want to check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0yJeOd2ipU

Then my grandparents came over and gave me their present which was A SEWING MACHINE! I love it so so so much, it's a Brother and has pink on the front of it. LOVE

After that my other grandparents came over and gave me some money which I'm going to put towards buying some good running shoes.

Then after dinner I'll be leaving to pick my sister up from the airport. She left me the nicest letter I have ever read for my birthday and it was so incredibly sweet.

All in all it was a lovely day, not how many 18 year olds would spend it, but I honestly don't care!

Over and out,
Erin.

Day 9: Quirky things

So I guess this topic is pretty open for interpretation so it's going to be pretty random, but just tonight actually my mum brought up something that I didn't even realise I did and still do to this day.

When I was little whenever I finished dinner my mum taught my sister and I to both say "Thankyou for a nice dinner Mummy may I hop down?" and we weren't allowed to get down without it, which is fair enough seeing that mum had prepared us dinner! Throughout the years 'Mummy' eventually got shortened down to 'Mum' but to this day whenever I finish dinner I still say that line. It's just imprinted in my memory as the right thing to do after dinner.

So anyway tonight Mum goes 'Erin you know you've been saying that since you can talk, you don't really have to do it anymore if you don't want.' But I don't plan on stopping, it shows my mum that I appreciate what she cooks for me!

Another thing my mum told me I used to do but don't remember is I used to say "SAY THAT!" alllllll the time, apparently it was like my catchphrase. I would literally give people a line to say and then say "SAY THAT SAY THAT SAY THAT" until they repeated it. Was I the strangest child ever or what!

Anyway that's all for tonight, I have my last uni exam of the semester tomorrow morning and then I am free for the semester! I'll also be sure to update on my birthday with what I did on the day :)

Over and out,
Erin.

Day 8: Something you miss

Oh man, this has got to be the hardest question of all the ten, to narrow down what I miss/will miss about my childhood into a list that won't take all year to read is going to be a challenge. Let's just begin by saying that I miss everything my childhood was, but at the same time I am so unbelievably grateful that I was able to have the childhood I did.

I miss my sense of imagination. I miss how I could spend the entire day with just two Barbie dolls and by the end of it I would feel like I had gone on a whole adventure to the other end of the earth and back. I miss how I would ride my bike in loops round and round my house and how I had imaginary friends that made up for my lack of real friends. I miss when my dad would come home from work and I would run out to meet him and he would throw me up in the air and then catch me again. I miss feeling loved by everyone.

I miss how people don't judge children, we were allowed to be anything and do anything we wanted.

I hate how just because I've increased in age it's suddenly unacceptable to spend all day having fun. I miss the friends I had, the games I played, the love I used to have for school. I miss not worrying about my appearance, I miss not worrying about boys. I miss not worrying about the future.

But most of all I miss how happy I was.

Over and out,
Erin.

Day 7: Childhood Friends

I feel as though doing this tag has made the countdown to my birthday go 10 000 times faster. I can't believe there is only three days left until I am 18 years old!

So today is childhood friends. I've never been the type of person that has a lot of friends, I always stuck to one friend or at most 3, so I'm not going to have too many people to talk about here!

Grade 1: My best friends were two girls named Ellana and Shayna, I think the reason we were friends was because we all went to the same playgroup together when we were younger so our mums had become friends already, we were just destined to be friends I suppose! Anyway, I don't really remember much about grade one but one thing I do remember is when Ellana and I ran the school cross country together, we were just talking to each other and running the whole way and then all of a sudden all the supporters were yelling at us and we were so confused! It turns out somehow we were coming first! Apparently I put my foot over the line just before so I came first (Sorry Ellana)

I haven't seen Ellana or Shayna since grade 6 but our mum's are still friends.

Grade 7: My best best friend in Grade 7 was a girl named Kaitlin. For some reason we just clicked and we were honestly the craziest people ever but that was okay because we were both as crazy as each other. I think that was one of my favourite years because Kaitlin and I spent the entire time inventing all these crazy things and building cubbies under desks as well as always cleaning up and generally being teachers pets (I'll admit that we were!) It is so upsetting how much we have drifted apart, I miss having someone around who understands me.

Day 6: Best Present

So I woke up this morning and realised I hadn't posted my day 6 post! So expect two posts today. Anyway, today is the best present ever received. I don't know about you guys but the presents I received as a kid were always my favourite because people would get you the coolest things to play with or do. Now that I'm getting older the main trend seems to be getting clothes as presents (not that I'm complaining I am so thankful for every gift I get) but it seems a huge step away from the awesome toys I once got!

I think my all time favourite gift would have to be a christmas present I got when I was around 7 years old. I remember my sister and I had finished opening all of our presents and then mum suggested we go outside to clean up the "Reindeer food" that we always left out, carrots etc. So when we turned the corner we saw two brand new bikes sitting in the backyard and me being the not so smart seven year old I was, I was so confused especially when mum decided to say "Oh look some kids must have left there bikes here on accident." AND I BELIEVED HER! ahh how silly of me. But anyway, the bike I got was perfect for me, it was pink and had a baby seat in the back where I could put my favourite doll. I had to use training wheels on it for a while since it was my first ever bike! But I used to get it out all the time and spend the entire day riding around the yard. So much fun!

This was my exact bike! How on earth did I forget the handlebar streamers! Such a 90's bike. I always use to put snacks and water in the front bag too and pretend I was riding really far away and I'd have a picnic in the front yard. I miss how amazing my imagination was back then!

What was your favourite present?

Day 5: Favourite Children's Books:

Let me just start by saying I love how absolutely nobody is reading these posts but I keep making them anyway. One day I'll look back on this blog and be glad I stuck this tag out!

Now, onto day five.

If any of you know me you'll know that I absolutely loveeeeeee to read, and I accredit that to the fact that ever since I was a tiny tot my parents read all sorts of stories to me. I remember in Grade 3 we had set readings and my mum would have to ask the teacher to set me harder books. Whoops! So naturally I have a lot of favourite books so I'm going to try to narrow them down into a short list.

1.  You and Me Little Bear.
Ever since I can remember, my nickname in my family has been "Little Bear" so one year my parents gave this to me for Christmas, and my mum and I used to read it together all the time. (Even though I'm nearly 18 mum still sometimes asks to read to me. I haven't said yes yet but maybe I should.)
2. I can't find the book cover for this one but I believe it was called Bedtime Stories for Little Ones and it was a massive story book split into three sections, with stories about dogs, bear and rabbits. But my favourite part of all was that on every page you had to find the hidden paw print of the animal. Many hours were spent trying to find them all!

3. The Enchanted Dolls House
I cannot put my love for this book into words. It is less of a story book and more of an adventure. With pop up houses, and things to find where the dolls travel through different time periods. I got this book when I was around 11 or 12 and still love it to this day. I think this could be where my obsession with being a princess came from.

So that's all for today! If you have a favourite childhood story book please leave me a comment :)
If not, I will talk to you all tomorrow!

Erin.

Day 4: Primary School Stories:

Alright, I loved primary school when I was in it, so I thought I'd just share a whole bunch of random moments from it that have stuck in my memory.

1. Grade 1: My teacher discovered I was the only one in the class who knew how to spell 'invitation.' From that moment on whenever a teacher or parent walked into the room she would have me stand infront of them and spell it out. Every. single. time.

2. Grade 3: My friend Victoria and I were spinning around in circles holding hands when she accidentally let go of me and I feel backwards onto the concrete and cracked my head open. Luckily my mum was still there so she took me to the doctor who glued it up and I got the day off school :)

3. Grade 3: I got an ant farm for my birthday and I loved it so much I brought it in for show and tell and the boys took it outside at lunchtime and broke it. My mum promised to buy me another one but she never did.

4. Grade 5: I was one the monkey bars and the bell went for class to start, so I let go of the bars just as a boy took a running start for the monkey bars and swung his foot right into my mouth. It knocked one of my teeth out and didn't stop bleeding for over an hour.

There's plenty of other more boring stories but I didn't want to put you all to sleep!

Over and out,
Erin.

PS: Sorry there's no photo today, I'm outside :)

Day 3: Embarrassing Childhood Story

Okay, I think everyone has some embarrassing stories from their childhood that they like to share with people because they seem so long ago that it couldn't have possibly been you making that embarrassing mistake! Nonetheless here are some embarrassing stories that I am going to pretend didn't happen to me:

1. The & symbol.
Now my sister is a nice person but I think when she was younger she liked scaring me a lot. She used to tell me that it was completely and utterly illegal to use the '&' symbol. ANYWHERE. EVER. So naturally, me being the not so bright 5 year old I was, I believed her. Until one day I was feeling a bit rebelious and drew the symbol. Not 5 seconds later I legitimately go so scared I ripped up the piece of paper and started crying thinking that the police were going to arrive any minute and take me away.

However, whenever I write 'and' these days I always use the & symbol. Just a way of reminding myself it isn't illegal I suppose.

2. Grating wood.
The stairs in my house are made out of wood, so naturally so are the handrails. I think this must have occurred around the ages of 3 or 4? Because I sort of remember this happening but that doesn't make it any less horrifying that I ever did it! So anyway, I guess I was just tall enough to see over the top of the handrail on the 2nd floor because I used to grind my teeth on it. Like actually just grate my teeth up and down on the rail. I think I did this a few times because my mum found the marks one day and was so confused, I think it took me about a week to confess it was actually me. My mum already knew though.

The marks are still there too!

HOW EMBARRASSING!

3. Victory Victory Curtains and Blinds
If you're from Australia you know the ad I'm talking about here. It has a really catchy jingle that goes "Victory Victory Curtains and Blinds one three one three double nine." It is the catchiest thing every I swear to goodness because I knew that phone number off by heart, so one day I decided to call the company. As soon as a lady answered I slammed the phone down so hard and I felt immediately horrible because I thought the lady would know my phone number and then she would send the police to my house to come and get me (is this a recurring theme that I'm petrified of the police???) so anyway I ran to my mum crying and after she had finished laughing her head off she told me it would be our little secret.

It wasn't though! She never fails to tell every single person she meets!

I'm certain I have a bajillion other embarrassing stories but these are the ones that have stuck with me!

Over and out,
Erin.

Day 2: Favourite childhood memory

Oh goodness, why did I put this one second!? I'm going to need a few minutes to think about this.

GOT IT

Okay from when I was really little, until I was a bit older (really descriptive I know, I don't know exact ages!) my dad's friend from work owned this beach house on the Gold Coast and he would rent it out to us for like a week in the summer holidays. It was this tiny little thing with a big grass yard and it was one of those houses that are on stilts so you can walk around underneath them and I thought that was the coolest thing in the whole entire world. I still remember you'd walk up the stairs and on one side was the bathroom and the other side was the house. I just thought it was freaking cool okay.

The house was right opposite the beach and we'd go there and dad would help us make the biggest sandcastles ever and we'd sit right on the top. Unfortunately I was too young to remember all this but when I got older and we went back I remembered more :)

Maybe the actual reason why I liked this beach house so much was that it was the one time of the year we got to eat froot loops for breakfast! I remember Aimee and I would always get those packs of cereal that have like 8 different kinds and we'd always fight over who got the froot loops, so mum had to buy two packs!

So there you go, here's two pictures from our first time at the beach house:

If you go to the beach house now, it's still there but is fully surrounded by sky rises. It's quite sad really.

Erin.

10 Days of Childhood #1

Hey everyone!
So I thought I'd try something new out on my blog for the next 10 days. In exactly 10 days today, I'm turning 18! Which is a big deal in Australia because it means you are now a legal adult. Excuse me? I'm going to be a child for the rest of my life thanks. But seeing as I only have 10 days left of being known as a child I thought I would post and aspect of my childhood that I love for the days leading up to my birthday! Here they are:

1. Earliest memory
2. Favourite childhood memory
3. Embarrassing childhood story
4. Primary school stories
5. Favourite children's books
5. Best present you ever received as a child
6. Childhood friends
8. Something you miss
9. Quirky things you did as a child
10. Favourite childhood photos

DAY 1: Earliest Memory

So according to some scientists somewhere most people only begin remembering things from the age of 4, which I suppose in my case is sort of true since my earliest memory is from kindergarten, when I was exactly four years old.

I remember we had a swing out the back of the kindy that was basically just a tyre laying flat and some ropes holding it off the ground, I'm not sure quite how it happened but I fell off and grazed up both of my knees really bad. (Bad for a 4 year old that is). So my kindy teacher took me inside and lifted me onto one of the benches in the kitchen, which was quite exciting for me, since we weren't allowed to sit on them normally! Then she rinsed off my knees and put on some weird white powdery stuff to stop them bleeding. That's a pretty random thing to remember but it is honestly my earliest memory!

One of my other memories from kindy is when we used to have nap time and I would never go to sleep, I would just sit up flicking through the pages of a Whinnie The Pooh book, but not reading the words, just looking at the pictures! I also remember dressing up in this cute little outfit for pirate week!

I ran into an old kindy friend at university a few weeks ago and we were sharing stories from it, he sure does remember a lot more than me!

Erin.

Exam Stress.

Hey beautiful people,
Thanks for sticking with me even though I haven't posted in a while, I appreciate it a lot :) So at the moment I'm in the middle of my first ever university final exams! I had one on Saturday and I have three more until I am freeeeee for a whole month! (I already have a list stuck to the back of my door with things I need to do on the holidays)

So I thought I would make a quick post seeing as I am the worst studier you will ever meet. I can't go more than an hour without finding something 50 times more interesting to do. This afternoon that was making these bracelets:

I really like them and I currently have the Carpe Diem one tied around my wrist and I'm going to leave it there as long as possible until I've finally learnt how to better manage the time I am lucky enough to be given each day!

Well I suppose I better go back to my studying soon but I will try to update in the meantime if anything interesting happens. If not, look forward to a post about my 18th birthday which is coming up in 12 days! How crazy! I will be an adult. I think that's probably the scariest thought of all.

Until then, keep breathing and don't forget to smile.

Over and out,
Erin.

The Color Run.

So this weekend was quite possible the most fun I have had in my entire life! On Saturday Ashleigh and I caught the train to the Gold Coast to pick up our packets that was happening on the sunday. Even though the train trip was pretty long (an hour each way) we talked the whole time just about anything and everything. About university and how we're not sure it really suits what either of us want to do with our lives, it was quite an eye opening conversation and I left it more sure with what I want to do with my life, I'm just not sure that university is it.

So after the train trip back Ash had circus training so I went home and sewed up these pants for the 3 of us (Ash, Lee-Ann and I)

I love them so much! The Color Run logo is from the sleeves of our t-shirts which we cut off to make them muscle tanks. They looked so awesome!

So Saturday night Ash and Lee-Ann slept over, and we took some crazy photos on my webcam before hitting our beds at about 11pm in order to not be too dead when we woke up at 5am! So at 5 on Sunday morning Ash and I woke up without a struggle but we literally had to drag Lee-Ann out of bed! She is the worst morning person ever!

After we'd caught the train into the venue there was literally a sea of people in white t-shirts ready to get colourful!

I don't know how much you all know about the color run, but here's a quick overview:
- You run/skip/cartwheel/walk 5km, and every km they spray a different color on you
- At the end of it there is a MASSIVE finishing festival with music and everyone throws their packets of color in the air at the same time.
In the Orange Zone.
When this happens it literally turns into night because the color is absolutely everywhere, and I would recommend trying to keep it out of your mouth, but everyone is so insanely colorful at the end and everyone is just happy and smiling. It's crazy!

The finish festival.
It was literally the best day of my life and some of the stares we got catching the train back all colorful were hilarious! I definitely would not have wanted to spend the day with anyone else, Ash and Lee-Ann are the best people you could ever hope to be friends with.

Over and out,
Erin.
