Goodbye April

Can you believe that there is now only one day left in April? I can't!
I've decided to mash a couple of my "end of month" posts together from now on: My "Dear _", monthly wrap up, and some of the photos I took this month that didn't make it onto the blog. So enjoy!

favourite part// Running barefoot through the fog at 6 in the morning

reading// The diary of Anne Frank (I felt it was time to read it again)

listening to// Sleeping at Last and only Sleeping at Last (when I first discovered them I had to pause the song for a minute to calm myself down.) My favourite songs so far are Earth, East and everything else ever.

learning//All about the food industry/agriculture

doing//Everything other than what I'm supposed to be doing

next month// Hopefully finding a good routine to stick to and getting lots of work done

What was the best part of your April?

Serial Stargazer || Essentials & Playlist

How long has it been since the last time you went outside for no reason other than to watch the stars twinkle? If you missed watching the Lyrid's meteor shower on Thursday morning then don't fear, there's always plenty of other showers to see (put May 5th in your diaries for the Eta Aquarids!). There doesn't even need to be a particular event happening for you to get out and marvel at the beauty of the universe. If you're planning on staying outside to stargaze for a long time (or are getting up at the ridiculous time of 2am to do so like yours truly...) then there are a few things that you'll need to keep you comfortable and nice and warm.

Comfort
- Picnic Blanket to lay on
- Pillow or cushion
- Blanket to keep you warm

Clothes
- Thick coat/jacket (don't underestimate how cold the early morning air can be, even when it's summer)
- Tracksuit pants (you might even want thermals underneath)
- Beanie
- Gloves
- Thick socks
- Warm boots

Other
- Camera: if yours has the ability to photograph stars
- Binoculars: even the smallest pair will allow you to see so many more stars than you can with the naked eye
- Torch: one with a red light is best, you can just put red cellophane over the top as this helps preserve your night vision!
- Phone (optional):I have a star map I use on mine to help find constellations
- Snacks
- Water (or a thermos of tea/hot chocolate if you're super prepared!)
- Ipod: Listening to just the right songs while stargazing makes the experience 10x better

If you're going to go stargazing in the early morning get everything ready the night before and put it by the door so you're not crashing around everywhere trying to find things.

The view at from 2am - 4:30am Wednesday 22/4/15

As a little something extra, here's a playlist of the songs that'll make your stargazing experience surreal.

Now you're ready to get stargazing, what are you waiting for?

PS. I've had the idea of starting a little "astronomy" series on this blog, where once or twice a month I teach you guys about different constellations so you can go out and find them
yourselves. Let me know if it's something you'd be interested in!

Your Story

Last night you fell asleep in your own bed, cradled by the familiarity of the world which you built for yourself. This morning you awaken, nothing is what it seems, nothing is what it should be. Silence glides through the world like an invisible beast filling even the tiniest spaces. You feel it in your lungs, wrapping its ice-cold body around your breath. It turns and then settles, leaving a weight like a boulder inside of you. You do not know how long it will sleep there.

But you do know that something has changed.

You pull back the covers and place your feet delicately onto the floor. The floor. The floor which was there but now is not. You look down slowly as your feet touch not the expected smooth wood of your bedroom, but a dense blanket of grass which springs back into shape as you recoil your feet in shock. A second glance around your room reveals things your sleep crusted eyes were not yet awake enough to take in: the cracks in the walls and ceiling, the ivy climbing like a curious creature upwards as though intent on getting the best view of this strange new reality, and a sense of unknowing which hangs from the cobwebs in the corner.

It is now that you look outside.

Fog. It rolls through the forest without fear, taking the shape of all that once was and will be as it continues its journey without guilt or greed. You are now thoughtlessly stumbling out into it and begging for answers until your throat runs hoarse and your voice cracks in the same way as your fractured heart. The fog has no reply, instead brushing along your cheeks like a gentle caress, a quiet assurance that perhaps things are different, but that doesn't mean that they cannot be okay. You apologise to the shadows for your reckless intrusion; they appear less foreboding when you greet them with kindness.

All at once the silence inside and around you snaps. An overwhelming roar of life fills your senses. Where once you were heavy you are now weightless. You glide like the fog, you whisper like the rustling leaves and you fill yourself up with the warmth of the sunlight. You are alive, and for the first time you are aware that everything else is too. You hear the world speaking in a million different languages, a million different lives living under your bare feet alone. The limbs of the trees now look less like skeletons and more like outstretched arms pointing to guide your way home. You wish you didn't have to leave so soon.

Last night you fell asleep in your own bed, cradled by the familiarity of the world which you built for yourself. This morning you awake to the same world. Nothing is different, nothing has changed.

Nothing except you.

Happy Earth Day!

A List || 10 Words to Use More Often

Hello! I've decided to start a new writing section on this blog called "A List" which is pretty self explanatory. I always seem to be making lists of different things, so I thought I would share some of them with you!

This list is 10 words to use more often. I love the way a beautiful word sounds and think it's never too late to expand your vocabulary. Why spend your whole life using the same set of words to explain everything when there's a myriad of words out there to choose from!?
Here are some of my very favourite words I wish people used more:

So there you go! I know kingdom isn't a particularly uncommon word but how much more magical does it sound to say "Welcome to my kingdom" instead of just "This is where I live." I'm also making it my mission to bring "happenstance" back.

What are your favourite words that you think more people should use? I'd love to hear them!

Outfit || April

I hesitate to call this an outfit post because it's, well, you'll see. Last month I took a trip to the edge of the universe and came back with some sort of strange glittery aura...

As you can see I'm still trying to find new and different ways to edit my photos, it's time consuming but I love love love how the top one turned out!

The Magic of the Moon

“The moon is a loyal companion.
It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and waning, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.
Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.” ~Tahereh Mafi

Video || March 2015

I really didn't mean to have 2 video posts in a row, but you're getting it anyway. Here's my monthly video for March! March was a bit of an odd month this time around, I don't feel like I managed to fully make the most of it and instead felt like I was watching life happen to someone else rather than have it happening to me. Has this ever happened to you guys? Please let me know I'm not alone!

What was the best thing that happened to you in March? If it was nothing, well here's hoping April is much less all over the place for both of us.

Video || My Morning Routine

I thought I'd do something pretty different to my usual posts for today, a morning routine video! My old camera had the worst video quality ever so since getting my new one I've been having fun testing it out! This is what became of that testing. Yes, you get to listen to my horrible Australian accent. Enjoy.

This is pretty much how every morning goes for me, let me know how yours goes and if there's any other sort of videos you'd like me to make, I had heaps of fun making this one!
