Adventure || Sydney

Back in May my Mum and I went on a day trip to Sydney (a 6:30am flight and a 6:30pm flight) in order to get my visa approved for my trip to the US. Today is actuall my last day at camp!

After the scary visa process was over we had a bunch of time to explore the city which is probably one of the first places people think of when they think of Australia. I've been to Sydney a number of times but it's still such a novelty to be able to explore somewhere new even for a day, and there is no denying that there is something about Sydney which feels so much more alive and vibrant than Brisbane. I don't think I could ever live there permanently though (let alone in any city) because I always find the hustle and bustle of big cities overwhelming.

I hope you're all enjoying your August and I can't wait to get home and tell you all about my new adventures in the even bigger city of New York!

Outfit || August

One afternoon just as the sun was about to slip out of sight I decided to run out with my camera and try to capture a few photos. I didn't manage to get a heap of photos but I love the sun flares in the ones I did get (remind me to write that down on my list of favourite things.)

My shirt is from the thrift shop which I altered a little to make it fit me better and the skirt is homemade. Let's also just take a minute to appreciate the fact that I'm not wearing the boots I wear in every single other outfit post. I did feel kind of incomplete without them though so they'll be back on my feet soon enough.

Goodbye Miss Sun!

Carly also made me this gorgeous key charm bracelet for my birthday and I'm in love with it! I'd give you some ideas on what I think the keys unlock but I'll let you leave that question to your imagination!

USA || The Adventure So Far

Hey everyone! I know I've had posts scheduled for the past few weeks but I feel like I've not been online in a lifetime, and (I must admit) I kind of like it. Right now is the first time in the past 7 weeks that I've had the chance to really sit and do my own thing let along write a blogpost, so I'm making the most of it now.

For those of you who don't know where I am why not have a read of this post.

Basically this is me just checking in to say hello, remind you I'm still alive and let you know that I'm still thoroughly enjoying myself over here in the USA.

Here's a smattering of some of the photos I've taken since being here. Some from adventures and some from camp all mixed in together. I'm already working on a video from my travels and there's bound to be more posts about it in the future, but for now here are some of my favourite things from my adventure so far:

- Pine trees that remind me of my favourite books

- Every single sunset

- Fireflies

- Making heaps of new friends

- Keeping busy

- Hiking

- Looking for 100 miles above the treetops

- Walking beside the train tracks

- Exploring Central Park

- Waking up before the rest of the camp

- That one foggy morning when I woke up at 5:30am and ran out into it

- The feeling of community

- Buying too many new books

- All of the handwritten letters the kids receive

- My wall of polaroids

- Falling into bed exhausted but happy

You've got a piece of the world caught in your hair.

I think I have officially found my favourite way to edit photos. Of course I stumbled across this technique at the most inconvenient time, but I cannot wait to play around with this more when I get home again. My mind is already whirring with all the different things I could use it for. Ahh the possibilities are endless!

The Constellation Catalogue || #2: Gemini

This month's constellation is Gemini! I really love the story behind the twins, plus it's pretty easy to find in the sky due to its close proximity to the constellation of Orion which is a bonus (My plan with this catalogue is to use Orion as our starting point for finding constellations and then slowly spreading out from there). 

As mentioned below, Gemini is also known as The Twins and is one of the signs of the zodiac.  It is the star sign of people born between May 21st and June 20th.

Since this is an astronomy-based post I also wanted to let you guys know about the New Horizons spacecraft which will be doing its first fly-by of the planet Pluto on July 14th. You've probably heard about it, but if you haven't let me give you some information: New Horizons was launched in 2006 which means it has been travelling towards Pluto for nine years. This is the first spacecraft in history to enter Pluto's system and hence will give us the clearest photos of the planet that we've ever had. Long story short, we all get to witness some amazing history in the making.

DIY || Watch Band

A little while ago the band on my favourite watch broke, which isn't surprising really when I remember I bought it for $4 from eBay. Nevertheless I felt it wasn't really worth buying a new band when I could just make my own! The band is super simple to make so I thought I'd show you all incase of any future watch band breakages.

You will need:

- Cotton embroidery threads in whatever colours you want. If you want a thicker band use more threads.

- A watch face

- Buckle from an old watch band

- Optional: Beads

What to do:

Instead of my usual step-by-step instructions I've decided to try something a little different and make a video for this DIY! Let me know what you think!

Although it's not shown in the video you can also add embellishments like beads to your band, or try out some different patterns! The options are endless.
